The Department of Tamil is the first ever laid Departments in the year 1962 to 1979 of our college. From 2016, M. Phil & Ph. D Research Programmes are offered as Full time & Part time.
The Department has been honoured with the title of "Tamil Valar Tendral" by Thiruvalluvar Manava Sangam, Chennai.
Dr. Sinthanai kavinjar Kavidhasan and Vanoli Maamani J. Kamalanadhan have donated an amount of Rs.1,00,000/- for endowment and the interest is awarded as the cash prizes for Bharadhi Vizha every year from 2017 onwards.
It owns the special Magazine "Nirmala Nanthavanam" enriched with the quality write ups of the students with a motif to encourage their writing skills. Other department publications are “Iyalpu”, “Urainadai Thokuppu”, “Olaikkili”, “Sowndharavalli”, “Ilakkiyam + Kalai = Valviyal”, “Mouna Eraicha”l.
