Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore has been the cutting edge of women's training in Tamil Nadu since 1948. The College records steady yet spectacular progress since its inception.

At present women students are trained in various disciplines of Arts, Commerce and Science at the UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D levels.

In acknowledgement of the meritorious service for the cause of women's education, the College was conferred autonomous status on 14.5.2007 by the UGC. The UGC Expert Committee recommended an extension of autonomous status for a duration of six years with effect from 2013-2014.

Nirmala College pledges to honour the sacred status conferred on the institution, while following the footsteps of the founders to empower women by developing human capacities through quality education.

CHOICE-BASED CREDIT SYSTEM

Choice-Based Credit System is a flexible system of learning. ‘Credit’ defines the quantum of contents/syllabus prescribed for a course and determines the number of hours of instruction required. The distinguishing features of CBCS are the following.

  • Choose Elective papers offered by their Departments /other departments.

  • Undergo 6 skill-based courses offered by the college.
