Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore has been at the forefront of women's education in Tamil Nadu for the lst 78 years. The progress made by the College since its inception has been gradual but spectacular. At Present, women students are trained in various disciplines of Arts, Science and Commerce at the UG, PG and PhD levels. In recognition of the meritorious service for the cause of women's education, the College was conferred Autonomous status on 14.05.2007 by UGC. The UGC Expert Committee recommended an extension of Autonomous ststus for ten years w.e.f 2019-2020 (2019-2020 to 2028-2029).

    Autonomy implies that

  • Management, Staff and Students will shoulder the major responsibility as co-partners in raising the quality of higher education.

  • The participatory style of management will be involved in curriculum development and short-term and long-term institutional planning.

  • The institution has the potential for offering programmes of a higher-standard.

  • The teacher can exercise freedom in developing the necessary intellectual climate for students.

  • There exists a functional grievance redressal mechanism.

  • To empower women by developing human capacities through quality education.

  • Nirmala College pledges to honour the sacred status conferred on the institution whle follwoing the footsteps of the founders.
