ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The college was granted recognition for the Zoology Degree Course in the year 1957. The department has completed 62 years of dedicated service to women. The department offers B.Sc. (Aided), M.Sc. (SF) and Research Programmes (SF) in Zoology. Diploma and Certificate Courses are offered as a part of the curriculum. In 2010, the department was sanctioned an Innovative Programme in Vermiculture by UGC. Subsequently in 2012, UGC sanctioned the Career Oriented Programme in Vermitechnology.

The department was inducted under the DBT Star Status Scheme in 2012 and was elevated to the Star Status in the year 2017. Seminars, Symposia and Workshops have been organized under fundings received by UGC and DST. An ASTRA programmes was organized under the auspices of TNSCST for rural areas. Community and Extension Activities are regularly carried out in villages and tribal villages in particular. The Lab to Land programme has done remarkable service to the Public- School Children, Colleges and Villages in the form of blood group and Haemoglobin test, awareness programmes on environment related issues and personal hygiene. Apiculture units and ornamental fish have been established in the campus under DBT funding. The department strives to train its students in Academics, Skills and Entrepreneurship Development Programmes. As a part of the Incubation Centre the department has tie up with the Industries for Health Care Programmes.
