  • After patrollers have reviewed the handbook a review session is hosted. This will give the opportunity to ask questions, review important points and evaluate patrollers’ understanding of the material.

Observation

  • Once the recruits have a basic understanding of patrolling from reading and discussing the handbook, they can move to observing the procedures in action.
  • Each new patrol team should be assigned a buddy patrol, from the current patrol teams on duty, for several shifts. Recruits may “shadow” an experienced patrol teams on duty, which safely helps them gain an understanding of traffic/student flows. (it would be such a good idea to refresh the existing squads in the proper procedures before this observation period.) this provides an opportunity for the recruits to ask questions of the existing patrollers and watch the procedures being demonstrated.

Practical

  • After several observation and training periods, the recruits should practice in the college grounds.
  • Patrollers will be scheduled for crosswalk duty, when they show satisfactory performance and are able to follow the procedures.
