Road Safety Patrol

Road Safety Patrol (RSP) is a voluntary organization involved in Road Safety Education. Their primary duty is to inculcate social responsibility, traffic sense among the students and create awareness among the public. The RSP volunteers are trained for regular traffic management, ensuring the flow of the traffic and understand and display better road safety signals while regulating the traffic. The volunteers efficiently regulate the traffic in front of the Campus every day.

Achievements

  • RSP Unit of Nirmala College declared as "Best one in the City". Chief Guest - Dr. Sylendra Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore.
  • The RSP Unit of Nirmala College won the Prestigious City Police Commissioner's Rolling Trophy for the year 2011-12.
  • Miss. R. Preethi of II B.Sc Maths – declared as best RSP Cadet of the year.
  • Mrs. Mercy Anandaraj Associate Professor in History – chosen as "Best RSP Co-ordinator".
  • Conducted and Participated in the Programme "Ananda Salai Vibathilla Covai" – World's Largest Road Safety Campaign.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2016 - 2017
An orientation program on "Role of Youth in Road Safety Patrol" was organized on 22.07.16 at 2.00 pm in the Morning Star Auditorium. Dr. R. Malliga, Associate Professor, Department of History, Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore, presided over the meeting.

Extension activity
RSP Cadets, Nirmala College for Women orientated the students of Panchayat Union Elementary School, Kangayampalayam, Coimbatore through posters and powerpoint presentation on the topic "Road Safety and Rules" on 02.08.16.

Mr. K.V. Vinayaga Moorthy, Training Officer, Tamilnadu Police Traffic Wardens Organization, Coimbatore City, Coimbatore - spoke on the topic "Road Safety and Awareness" to the villagers of Kangayampalyam, Coimbatore on 02.08.16.

Road Safety Patrol organized an orientation programme on the topic "Awareness on Road Safety" for all the I year students on 22.08.2016 at 11.00 a.m in the Morning Star Auditorium. Mr. Leonard Bernardin, RSP Co-ordinator and Mr. J. Sam Babu, Senior Duty Planning Officer, of Tamilnadu Police Traffic Wardens Organization, Coimbatore City Unit, Coimbatore presided over the programme and spoke on the topic. Mr. Leonard Bernardin orientated the students about the traffic rules and road safety. Mr.J. Sam Babu created awareness about the damages due to road accidents. He also made students familiarize the various traffic signs using powerpoint presentation. The programme created knowledge about traffic rules and road safety and to students were motivated the follow traffic rules and spread smiles on road.

Poster competition on the topic "Traffic Rules and Road Safety" was organized for the RSP Cadets on 09.09.2016.
Dr. M. Kavithadevi, YRC Programme Officer, Nirmala College for Women, judged the posters.

A training programme on "Role, Responsibilities and Duties of RSP Cadets in Road Safety" was organized for the I year RSP Volunteer in the college campus on 29.09.2016 at 2.00 p.m. Mr. J. Sam Babu, Senior Duty Planning Officer, Tamilnadu Police Traffic Wardens Organization, Coimbatore City Unit, Coimbatore, trained 150 RSP Cadets in the following :

  • Role and Responsibilities of RSP Cadets
  • Duties of RSP Cadets
  • Forming Cadets in Squad
  • General Parade – Right turn, Left turn, About turn

On 04.10.2016 Mr. J. Sam Babu, Senior Duty Planning Officer, Tamilnadu Police Traffic Wardens Organization, Coimbatore City Unit, Coimbatore, once again trained the RSP Cadets on "Road Duty with Practical Demo" in the following :

  • Signal Parade
  • Manual Signal (10)
  • How to do road duty with practical demo and finally
  • Saluting and Reporting
  • Fall in and Dispersal and Dismiss

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Regulating Traffic in front of the college gate every day
