Research Department of English

The distinguishing mark of man is his ability to articulate his feelings and thoughts, which is not curtailed by the limits of the organs of expression. Language is a very ingenious implement that has enabled man to differentiate himself from the lower forms of life. It can rightly be claimed that language is like apples of gold on plates of silver of human achievement. English is the pivot around which all other scholastic efforts revolve. Department of English helps students to realize the advantage of English skills.

ACTIVITIES
Annual programmes of the department : Workshops, Seminars and Literary Exhibitions
The Research Department takes meticulous efforts to organize Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Guest Lectures which give a healthy exposure to the current streams and topics of English Literature. These programmes foster subject knowledge, creativity and interest in students.

  • Workshop on American Poems
  • The USIS – A Travelling Exhibition
  • Seminar on "Different Faces of Journalism"
  • Seminar on Green Voices in Literature:
  • Literary Exhibitions
  • Literary Exhibition cum Competition is conducted for the UG and PG Literature students every year. Cash prizes are awarded for the prize winners. Students show zealous participation and put forth their best efforts. This is a fruitful experience for the participants as well as for the audience.

  • Excelsior – a week packed literary activities
  • Excelsior comprises many competitions as, Enacting a Scene from Literary Works, Miming, Dumb Charades, Pencil Sketching, Photography, Poem Composing, Essay Writing, Short Story Writing, Staging One-Act Plays and Art from Waste. The competitions are open to all the students of college. This annual event receives enormous number of participants for all the departments. The students are awarded certificates and attractive prizes on the final day of these events. It helps the students in identifying their talents and motivate them to participate in inter college level competitions or state level competitions

  • Community Service
  • The students visit Carmel Convent and help the needy people by donating toiletries

  • Reader's Club
  • Students and teachers are given platforms to review famous book and present it. The Club encourages the students to develop the interest in reading boos of different genres and share their reading understanding.

  • Quiz Club
  • Quiz competitions are conducted in regular intervals for the literature students. It gives a platform to enhance the literary knowledge and language skills if the students by exposing them to a number of literary facts and information

  • Educational Tour and Field Trips
  • The final year UG students are taken to educational tour every year. This becomes a memorable experience for them to cherish. One day trip, to places like book fairs, newspaper houses, is organized for the students to gain exposure to practical knowledge.

  • Our Lady of Health Prize – Every year a third year Catholic Student is awarded this Prize on the basis of merit and means under the initiaton of Dr. T.K. Hemalatha, Associate Professor of English.
  • Mrs. Sheela William Memorial PrizePrize is instituted by Dr. Sheba Frederic, Associate Professor of English
  • B.S. Antony Memorial Prize,instituted by Dr.T.K. Hemalatha, Associate Professor of English, is given to a needy III year Catholic Student based on her means
