AIM

  • To equip the students with an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of world economy

OBJECTIVES

  • To focus on the technical and competitive aspect of Economics
  • To prioritize co-curricular activities which results in active participation of the learners
  • To incorporate more skill and job-oriented inter disciplinary subjects

The Economics discipline was offered at the Pre-Degree level in the early stages. In 1957, B.A Economics was introduced and the Department of Economics became an independent segment. The year 2007-2008 marked the Golden Jubilee of the Department.


HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Department has to its record exemplary academic achievements. Down the years, the Department has bagged the prestigious Bharathiar University First Rank along with subsequent ranks almost continuously. The Department prides itself with a total of 68 University Ranks.
  • The Department in collaboration with Ravel's Community Institute offers a Certificate Course on Computer Applications since 2005.
  • The Department also offers a Certificate Course in Tally in collaboration with Ravel's Community Institute.
  • To improve the teaching-learning techniques in Economics, the Department applied and received a grant (2006) to purchase an LCD and Computers from Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust, Chennai.

  • Students are specifically encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities like NCC, NSS and Sports. Students have brought laurels to the Institution through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
